Abandoned planes

When photographer Dietmar Eckell began wondering what happens to planes forced to make emergency landings in remote locations, he decided to embark on a world wide exploration into locating them and photographing them. From Canada to the Sahara, Eckell captures how each plane is morphing with nature and becoming an intriguing part of the natural landscape in the series titled “Happy End”. Many of the planes he photographed have been abandoned for decades and each crash resulted in a happy ending where the passengers onboard survived. Not only are the planes themselves fascinating, but the terrain that surrounds them is absolutely breathtaking which Eckell does a superb job of capturing. The series is available in a photobook that can be purchased through the artist’s website.
